These terms apply when you use Quran & Adhkar ("the app"), made by Pensage Ltd ("we", "us"). By using the app you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.

1. A free app, made for the sake of Allah

The app is free. It has no ads, no subscriptions and no in-app purchases. We made it as sadaqah jariah and we intend to keep it free.

2. No account needed

The app has no accounts and no sign-in. Everything in it is available to everyone, without giving us your name or email address.

3. The Quran text

The Quran text and the Mushaf fonts (Uthmani Madinah and Indo-Pak Nastaleeq) come from the King Fahd Glorious Quran Printing Complex in Madinah. We take great care to display it exactly as published. If you ever notice an error in the text, the marks or the recitation, please tell us at ayahlight26@gmail.com; we will treat it as urgent and correct it as soon as we can.

4. Translations and religious guidance

Translations convey the meaning of the Quran in another language. They are not the Quran itself. The app does not give religious rulings (fatwas). For questions of practice, please consult a qualified scholar.

5. Prayer times, Qibla and Hijri dates

Prayer times are calculated from your location, or the city you choose, and a calculation method; they can differ from your local mosque's timetable. The Qibla direction depends on your phone's compass, which can be affected by magnetic interference, so please check it, for example against a known landmark. Hijri dates are calculated and may differ by a day from local moon-sighting announcements. Please treat all of these as helpful guides and follow your local mosque or authority where they differ.

6. Recitations and online content

Recitations and some other content stream from third-party servers. We can't guarantee they will always be available, and their availability may change.

7. Fair use

Please use the app for personal, non-commercial purposes. Don't try to disrupt the app or our server, or extract its content for commercial use. Some content, including fonts, text and recitations, is provided under its own licence (see Credits), and those terms also apply.

8. Ownership and credits

The app's design and code belong to Pensage Ltd. The Quran text, fonts, recitations and data from other sources belong to their respective owners and are used as described in the Credits below.

9. Changes and availability

We may update, change or pause the app or parts of it. We'll try to give notice of significant changes in the app.

10. Our responsibility to you

We provide the app free of charge and "as is". We take care to make it accurate and reliable, but we can't promise it will always be error-free or available. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses that arise from using the app or from it being unavailable. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live elsewhere in the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.

Quran & Adhkar is a free app made by Pensage Ltd as sadaqah jariah, an ongoing charity. We have no ads, nothing to sell, and no interest in your personal data beyond what the app needs to work well. This policy explains, in plain words, what the app uses, why, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Pensage Ltd is the data controller for the app. Pensage Ltd is a company registered in England and Wales, company number 15379410, with its registered office at 43–51 Whitmore Road, Birmingham, B10 0NR, United Kingdom. You can contact us at ayahlight26@gmail.com.

The short version

• There are no accounts and no sign-in. You never need to give us your name or email address to use any part of the app.
• We don't show ads, sell your data or track you across other apps or websites.
• The app does not use analytics or advertising tracking.
• Your bookmarks, settings, reading progress and dua counters are stored on your phone, not with us.
• Your location stays on your phone. Prayer times, the Qibla direction and the distance to the Kaaba are worked out on the phone itself.
• We use Google Firebase to fix crashes, check that the app runs smoothly, adjust settings and send notifications.

What the app uses, and why

Your location

To give you prayer times and the Qibla direction, the app needs to know where you are. You can either allow the app to use your phone's location (GPS), or choose your city from a list that is built into the app. Choosing a city does not need location permission.

Prayer times, the Qibla direction and the distance to the Kaaba are all calculated on your phone. The app does not send your location to us.

To show the name of your town or to find a place you type, the app may use your phone's built-in place-name service, which Apple (on iPhone) or Google (on Android) provides.

You can turn location access off at any time in your phone's settings. You can still choose a city, and you can still read and listen to the Quran.

Anonymous guest identifier

When the app first opens, it gets an anonymous identifier from our server (api.ayahlight.co.uk). The app sends it with its requests to our server, such as requests for reciter photos and app information. It is not linked to your name, email address or any account, and we use it only to answer those requests.

Our server's logs

Our server keeps technical logs, which can include your IP address, for no longer than 30 days.

Crashes and performance

We use Google Firebase services to keep the app reliable:

• Firebase Crashlytics sends us a crash report if the app crashes: technical details such as the device model, system version and what the app was doing.
• Firebase Performance Monitoring tells us how quickly the app loads and responds. It includes technical data such as your IP address, which Google uses to estimate your general region.
• Firebase Remote Config lets us change some settings in the app without releasing an update, for example to tell you that a new version is available. It sends basic technical details such as the app version, and Google may use your IP address to estimate your country.

The app does not use analytics or advertising tracking.

We use these services on the basis of our legitimate interest in keeping the app working well.

Notifications

Prayer-time reminders are scheduled on your phone. If you allow notifications, Firebase Cloud Messaging also lets us send general messages to everyone who uses the app, such as news of a new version. For this, Google gives your phone a notification token. We don't send that token to our server or link it to you. You can turn notifications off at any time in your phone's settings.

Recitations, adhan sounds and other content

Quran recitations stream from Tarteel's audio server (audio-cdn.tarteel.ai). Tajweed colour data is downloaded from api.quran.com and then kept on your phone. Reciter photos come from our server. If you choose your location on the map, map images come from OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org). To check whether you are online, the app occasionally contacts a Google web address. The duas and adhkar text and the adhan recordings are built into the app.

When your phone fetches these files, those servers see your IP address, as with any website. We don't send them any other information about you.

Stored only on your phone

Your bookmarks, favourites, settings, chosen city, reading goal, reading progress and dua counters are stored on your phone. We can't see them, and they are removed if you uninstall the app.

What we don't do

• We don't ask you to sign in or create an account.
• We don't show ads and we don't sell, rent or trade personal data.
• We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
• We don't use your data to make automated decisions about you.

Who helps us run the app

• Google (Firebase) provides crash reporting, performance monitoring, remote settings and notifications, acting on our instructions.
• Hostinger hosts our server.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK, for example in the USA. Where they do, they rely on safeguards recognised under UK data protection law.

How long we keep data

• Our server keeps technical logs for no longer than 30 days.
• Crash reports are kept by Firebase Crashlytics for up to 90 days.
• Data stored on your phone stays there until you delete it or uninstall the app.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct or delete it, object to or limit how we use it, and withdraw consent where we rely on it. Because the app has no accounts, we usually can't link data to you by name; if you contact us, we'll explain what we can find and help where we can. Write to ayahlight26@gmail.com and we'll reply within one month. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).

Children

The app is suitable for all ages, but it is not designed specifically for children and we don't knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe we hold personal data about a child, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

The app talks to our server, to Google and to the content servers listed above over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of storing or sending data is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable care to protect it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the date above and, for significant changes, tell you in the app.
